7/3/2024, Time To Hit The Rivers
Yakima River: The "flip-flop" on the Yakima River is underway which entails water release from some of the headwater reservoirs, raising the river flows through the summer. This makes wading access difficult below the Cle Elum River, though not impossible as there are still certain inside seams, side channels, and gravel bars still accessible. While boat access will be the best way to fish, the river above the Cle Elum confluence will remain accessible on foot most of the summer. Spring is here and the fishing opportunities are continually ramping up! We are just a couple weeks from many Puget Sound streams opening for trout fishing, yet there are numerous local lakes, the Puget Sound itself, and the Yakima River to fish, which has been fishing well as of late. Whether you care to chase coldwater or warmwater species, there are fish abound across the state. Fishing Report Yakima River: If chasing trout is desired the next few months, the Yakima River is one to consider. Being able to withstand the cooler temperatures of Eastern Washington is necessary, though the rewards can be fruitful. The river is low and clear as of this writing, though it will continually be prudent to keep an eye on flows during any rain events. Otherwise, the Yakima can be quite consistent if you know how to target the trout, which will generally entail nymphing and streamer fishing.
